ABOUT THE ARTIST & THE PATTERN
Trisha Pitura is a creator, entrepreneurial mother, and the co-founder of MINI TIPI. She hails from the Sudbury region in Ontario and is a member of the Nipissing First Nation. A few years ago, she began to embrace her identity more as an Indigenous woman and reconnect with her culture. She is now exploring her identity as an Ojibwe woman, using it as the creative force behind some of MINI TIPI’s fabrics.
The Anishinaabe see the thunderbird as one of the greatest spiritual beings. It protects us and ensures the life of all living beings. The thunderbird teaches us that all living beings must be treated with respect and integrity for our survival. This sacred bird comes from the west in the spring and brings storms and rain. It does the same before returning westward for the winter. The thunderbird is a symbol of power, protection, strength, and survival.
