The small fruit resembling a purplish blueberry, the saskatoon berry, also known as serviceberry and Juneberry, was consumed in large quantities by Indigenous peoples and had a place of choice in Canadian meals until the 1960s. Today, the saskatoon is making a comeback in our gardens for its ornamental qualities and early blooming, but also in our cuisine! Juicy and naturally sweet, the saskatoon captivates every palate with its slight taste of almonds and red fruits.
This jam is so delicious, perfect recipe! I love serviceberries and their little almond taste! I even gave some as a gift and introduced this excellent product from our region to my friends in Okinawa (Japan). They really loved it, just like I do!
I love it, thank you for this beautiful discovery of an unknown fruit!
The serviceberry fruit isn’t just for the birds 😉
