ABOUT THE DESIGN
A weaving of culture, history, and wisdom
In the complex threads of Generations, lies a profound tale of cultural resilience and timeless wisdom passed down through the ages. Inspired by the rich history of the Musqueam people, renowned for their mastery in weaving blankets not only for utility but as sacred emblems of tradition, law, and knowledge, this blanket embodies the essence of intergenerational storytelling. The wave pattern, borrowed from a 200-year-old Salish blanket preserved in a Finnish museum, intertwines with Aleen’s arrows, Debra’s zigzags, and Isaiah’s butterflies to form a tapestry of continuity, illustrating the harmonious transmission of knowledge from one generation to the next.
Generations is a poignant reminder of the imperative to preserve our cultural heritage, ensuring that the teachings, stories, and values of our ancestors endure. Like the threads connecting it, this blanket weaves ties between the past, present, and future, forging a timeless bond between generations and preserving the essence of who we are. Through its warmth and symbolism, it invites us to embrace our collective responsibility to nurture and protect our cultural tapestry for the generations to come.
