King boletes are big mushrooms with fawn-coloured caps which often grow near spruce trees. They grow a first time in late June and again in September. They are the most widely sold wild mushroom in the world after chanterelles, probably because their rich nutty and woodsy taste make them irresistible!
This is one of the great wild mushrooms and it is always a pleasant surprise to find a few. Near the door to Gourmet Sauvage’s kichen, there is a big white spruce under which we find, year after year, a few dozen king boletes. These little gems are consumed that very day.
The mushrooms we offer are handpicked in the forest and carefully dried. The result is a high quality product.
